New Mandate Extending Dental Patient Record Storage to 6 Years!

For those dental practices who store patient charts through a practice management software (that is server-based) or still the old-fashioned way in cabinets, a new rule was passed today in Washington State which requires offices to retain records from 5 years to 6 years. More and more states are requiring longer retention of patient records so it is important for your practice to stay ahead of the curve.

What does this all mean for your dental office that is still using paper charts or using an existing server-based dental practice management software?  This new mandate will require you to expand your storage space. But more importantly, if you are using another practice management software tool, then this precipitates to having to purchase bigger storage devices, maintaining larger backups and more liability for keeping records for longer periods. So even as your state may start enforcing longer retention of patient records, the beauty of “Dental EMR” is that since it is uniquely a “cloud-based” system, you won’t have to worry about a thing since we handle all your storage and backups for you at no additional cost. This ultimately saves you time, money and headaches! This is one of many reasons why many dentists feel that “Dental EMR” is worth every penny
